On Saturday night in the main event of Cage Warriors 80, which was held at the Indigo at The O2 Arena, London, England, Karl Amoussou captured the vacant 170-pound title via first-round TKO of Matt Inman. The “Psycho” has been impressive in his last seven outings – dispatching all his foes – six in the opening stanza.

For a while now, Amoussou (24-7-2 MMA) has been quite vocal in stating he needs, and wants to be in the UFC, and as performances go, his championship bout with Inman as well as his seven finishes should be requisite enough for a multi-fight contract with the world’s premier MMA promotion.

Amoussou, 31, does have solid mixed martial arts background having plied his trade in Bellator – the second biggest promotion behind the UFC. He also compiled a 5-4 record with the Santa Monica based company.

Furthermore, the French-German has the tools to easily break into the top fifteen of the UFC’s welterweight division, and probably make a success of it.

Current Welterweight UFC Rankings:

Champion: Tyron Woodley
1. Stephen Thompson
2. Robbie Lawler
3. Demian Maia
4. Carlos Condit
5. Neil Magny
6. Jorge Masvidal
7. Dong Kim
8. Donald Cerrone
9. Gunnar Nelson
10. Johny Hendricks
11. Tarec Safffiedine
12. Kamaru Usman
13. Jake Ellenberger
14. Matt Brown
15. Ryan LaFlare

If the UFC does come calling for the “Psycho,” there are a couple of tasty match-ups to be made – Saffiedine, eight-fight streaking Usman, Ellenberger and/or Brown.

Still, Amoussou’s newly acquired belt should give him some well-deserved exposure in regards to the UFC signing him, which I believe they should do at the earliest given opportunity.
