It appears the highly anticipated will-they-won’t-they match-up between top lightweight contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is on course for sometime in March of this year.

The source: Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, father and coach of “The Eagle.”

Per BloodyElbow:

Now, if this latest information from Nurmagomedov Sr., is to be taken at face value, well, it finally puts to rest the shenanigans of the last month and a half:

• Which has seen negotiations soured time and again.

• Enticements of an interim lightweight title bout that would’ve been contested between Nurmagomedov and current featherweight champ Jose Aldo (a UFC ploy seemingly to coerce Ferguson to the bargaining table).

• And for the coup de grâce (from the not so sublime to the downright ludicrous) – Nurmagomedov proffering “El Cucuy” 200k of his own money to make the fight happen. A gesture Ferguson respectfully turned down.

To add to the Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson intrigue, a recent Tweet by Ariel Helwani would suggest it’s increasingly likely that UFC 209 is where their battle takes place.
