The UFC has pulled out all the stops for their inaugural trip to the Big Apple.

UFC 205 is headlined by a lightweight championship superfight between 155lbs kingpin Eddie Alvarez taking on current featherweight champion and all-around money generating machine Conor McGregor. If successful in his bid for the 155lbs strap, McGregor will make history as the first fighter to hold UFC gold simultaneously in two weight classes.

As if that weren’t a big enough headliner, the main card is shored up by two additional title fights: In the co-main event, Tyrone “The Chosen One” Woodley will attempt to defend his welterweight belt for the first time against karate ace Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Just prior to Woodley and Wonderboy’s 170lbs tilt, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz — two Polish kickboxing champions — will square off as challenger Kowalkiewicz tries to unseat Jedrzejczyk from her top stop in the 115lbs strawweight division.

Even with three title fights at the top of the card, the UFC is not content to sit back on their laurels. Instead, UFC matchmakers have gone out of their way to fill the card with a who’s who of fan favorites, former champs, and potential title contenders. Former champs Chris Weidman and Meisha Tate are featured in a pair of fun fights to open the pay-per-view portion of the event, while Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens, Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Michael Johnson, and Rafael Natal vs. Tim Boetsch all air live and free on Fox Sports 1.  (Not to mention, Jim Miller and Thiago Alves throwing down in a Fight Pass preliminary bout.)

It’s safe to say after two decades of lawsuits, rejected senate bills, and floating in legislative limbo, the UFC is making as statement with UFC 205: It’s taken far too long to get here. Sit back and enjoy.
