ST.LOUIS — Chicago Cubs injured outfielder/catcher Kyle Schwarber is recuperating from knee surgery in Dallas but still keeping an eye on his team as they play a road matinee in St. Louis on Wednesday.

Schwarber had surgery Tuesday morning by Dallas Cowboys team physician Dr. Daniel Cooper to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. He’s hopeful to be playing again next spring and will start rehab in Chicago as soon as he gets back. The plan is for him to return to the city on Thursday.

Schwarber was injured in an outfield collision with teammate Dexter Fowler during the first week of the season.
